As govt-judiciary battle for powers reaches peak, PM moves to take vote of confidence today

ISLAMABAD : April 27,2023: To give an instant reply to chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , is likely to take a vote of confidence from the national assembly today .

Following day-long parleys with the coalition partners , the Prime Minister House had issued instructions to all the ruling members to make their presence in the national assembly session on Thursday.

The decision to take vote of confidence is going to be the reply to the CJP’s remarks that the prime minister has lost majority in the house .

CJP had given these remarks during one of the hearings in the polls delay case recently .

CJP’ s remarks in the polls delay case had created furore in the lower house and a number of parties chiefs of the ruling alliance including Pakistan People Party (PPP) and Foreign minister , Balawal Bhutto , had responded to CJP’s biting remarks . Balawal Bhutto in his speech in the national assembly on Wednesday had called CJP remarks as contempt to the parliament and demanded of the speaker national assembly to refer the matter to the privileged committee for action against CJP.

Mohsin Dawar , a leader of Pushtun Movement in his speech in the national assembly asked to the speaker to summon to CJP to seek explanation on his remarks about the prime minister and overruling related resolutions of the house.

Many other members of the national assemblies also expressed their concern on the recent remarks of CJP in the polls delay case.

Following these heated debates , speaker national assembly , Raja Pervez Ashraf , has written a 4-page letter to CJP demanding of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to stop meddling in the parliament affairs. The speakers clearly noted in his letter that the parliament was a supreme organ of the state and interfering into its affairs by SCP is tauntamount to violation of the constitution of Pakistan .

The speaker has informed to CJP in his letter that he was conveying him grave concern of the members of the national assembly over his highly objectionable remarks in the polls delay case.
