ISLAMABAD: Lt General (R), Asim Salim Bajwa has resigned as China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He submitted reaignation to prime minister, Imran Khan.

The prime minister appointed Khalid Mansoor as new CPEC chairman.

Asim Salim Bajwa confirmed his departure from the office of CPEC chairman in his tweet on Tuesday.

In his a couple of tweets, Asim Salim Bajwa thanked prime minister, Imran Khan, for extending full support to him to take forward CPEC project . He also expressed full confidence that CPEC will keep moving foward and see success to benefit Pakistan, China and other countries of the region.

Asim Salim Bajwa’s resignation from the post
of CPEC is a major development.

An informed source in Islamabad while commenting on Asim Salim Bajwa’s resignation said ” This development was due as some key players to CPEC were not happy with the working style of Asim Salim Bajwa”.

The informed source however, stopped short of naming the stakeholders who , according to him, were not comfortable with Aslim Salim Bajwa as CPEC chairman.

He said ” I think prime minister, Imran Khan, was aware of the matter and he wanted to replace Asim Salim Bajwa with someone who could manage the project as per comfortability of all the stakeholders and make it a success.

Asim Salim Bajwa had also resigned as advisor to the prime minister on Information soon after a story published by a digital news outlet in 2020. However, he kept on working as a CPEC chairman.
