* Cicatrix *!!

The permanent mark that a healed wound leaves behind is cicatrix and similar is the emotional scar that permanently stays when one is separated from his spouse in a retired life. This piece I dedicate to Nadeem Khan a retired Senior banker whom I met at ancestral home of Khan Abbas Sarfaraz Khan. Later, I found him to be the spouse of my school junior and name sake of my grandmother Halima ( Koko Jan).

I had promised Nadeem Khan a visit that I will always put off being always in haste to meet deadlines and drive straight to Swat. Yesterday while driving on M1 that I reconnected with him telephonically to my shock that he lost his honourable lady wife due to kidney failure leaving him alone to look after his two adorable teenaged daughter Amina, a FSC student and Parkha (dew) a matric student.

While we spoke Nadeem Khan, despite being a brave Pukhtun and resilient by nature would pause to put himself emotionally together before he resumed to relate the ordeal through which the family went through.

It all started undetected once high blood pressure resulted into the kidney failure of his late spouse that disturbed her entire pathology and hematology threatening her life. The family immediately responded to the unexpected medical emergency and ensured to visit the very best private hospitals that the country who offered who charged him exorbitant fees for dialysis that became her lifeline.

In desperation the family looked for permanent cure losing fast on their savings and opted for a transplant in one of the kidney hospitals without doing their diligent homework. Had I known timely , I certainly would referred them to the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant at Karachi, founded by Honourable Dr. Adib – Ul- Hasan Rizvi, a brilliant pupil of Late Professor Illyas, former Principal of Dow Medical College Karachi. Ironically, the wrong choice with hidden agenda of money making has its own demerits one being losing both money and one’s loved ones, beside the undesirable suffering of the patient. I personally have been witness to the selfless services of Dr. Adib Ul Hasan Rizvi to humanity that makes him no lessor than a living angel and the Sarfaraz family being one amongst the others, who generously funded his noble mission. Live Long Pakistan is proud of you. 🇵🇰
