FBR issues severe warning to officials vying for “Maal Banao” postings

FBR notes mid- carear employees using influence to get posting at lucrative posts .

Islamabad – August 21, 2024 : The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued warning to its employees who are using different tactics to get posting s at lucrative stations. FBR in its letter dated August 21, 2024 said it has serious concern over the use of undue influence by officers and officials. FBR noted that the influence is being used especially for field postings, raising questions about the transparency of the institution .A statement issued by the Secretary to the FBR chairman said that the exercise of such influence by mid-level officers has set a wrong example for junior officers. The declaration said that this act was a violation of the code of conduct of public servants and such actions would be considered in the category of “corruption”. Any such action may result in immediate suspension and legal action in the future. The FBR has also clarified that the agency accepts requests for change of posting by officers in legitimate circumstances, but legal procedures must be followed. Officers are directed to send their applications along with documentary evidence to the mentioned email addresses. Finally, the declaration warns that strict action will be taken against any officer or official who tries to obtain the posting through illegal means.

FBR letter itself indicates how FBR’s money lusty employees are in the race to get their postings in the field formations. FBR is already in the eyes of the storm for its internal rampant corruption. In a recent report carried out by the local media , FBR’s employees get over Rs 500 million in corruption at Qasim Port Karachi on daily basis only. A video of a scuffle between FBR officials in Lahore office for sharing of booty is still alive in the minds of the people of this country. Shabar Zaidi, a known face in Pakistan’s business community and ex-FBR chairman is narrating tales of FBR corruption in his every TV channel chat. Unluckily there is no internal accountability in FBR for any corruption case involving its officials and its putting its every official into a race for money-making.
