Federal Cabinet to Discuss Key Constitutional Amendments Today
ISLAMABAD, October 19,2024: The federal cabinet is scheduled to meet Saturday to discuss the proposed constitutional amendments, following the approval of the draft after extensive deliberations over the past month.
The draft of the amendment proposes several key reforms, including the formation of a constitutional bench, a parliamentary role in the appointment of the chief justice of the Supreme Court from a list of three judges, the restructuring of the Judicial Council and the Supreme Judicial Council, and the establishment of a three-year tenure for the chief justice.
Following approval of the draft by the cabinet, it will be presented to the Senate for further consideration. The meeting of the upper house is scheduled for 12:30pm, with the government ready to introduce the constitutional amendments.
