ECP rules PTI received funding from 34 prohibited sources

PTI announces to challenge ECP verdict in IHC

ISLAMABAD :. August 2, 2022. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ruled that the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) received funding from 34 unlawful sources .

A 3 -member panel of ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) , Sikander Sultan Raja, gave unanimous ruling confirming receiving of funds by PTI of Imran Khan from foreign individuals hailing from the US, UAE and other nationals .

The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has announced to challenge the decision of ECP in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Fawad Hussain Chaudhary , PTI senior leader, in a tweet said ” Supreme Court OF Pakistan and high courts decisions
made it mandatory to announce decision in foreign funding cases of all political parties in unisome”.

Updated on August 1, 2022. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finally declared to announce its decision in Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI ) banned foreign funding case on Tuesday.

According to an official handout, ECP will announce verdict in PTI foreign funding case at 10 AM on Tuesday.

The foolproof security arrangements have been made around ECP ahead of decision .

ECP decision in PTI foreign funding case could be of extraordinary importance and it may have far – reaching impact on Pakistan’s future politics .

The decision itself is very important for ECP as it would be for the first time in Pakistan’s history that a popular political party would be facing possibly hard decision in foreign funding case filed by one of its founder members.

ECP had reserved the judgement in the case on June 21,2022.

The government alliance was demanding of ECP to announce the judgement in PTI banned funding case soon.

Akbar S Babar, a party founding member, had moved a petition against PTI some eight years ago , claiming that PTI used foreign funding which was banned under the law for the party campaign in elections held in 2013.

PTI had been defending its position in this case and demanding of ECP to club the cases of other main stream parties like Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan People Party (PPP) .

PTI demand of clubbing the cases of other political parties and take a decision in toto was self – explanatory .

It, in legal terms, shows PTI wanted to delay the case of Akbar S Babar by putting such a demand to ECP.

PTI arguments and related developments clearly show Imran Khan’s party had difficulties in defending its position before ECP.

Fearing a hard decision from ECP, PTI main leadership started to apply blackmailing techniques . PTI chief, Imran Khan, used every tactic to make ECP controversial to preempt it from coming up with any decision against his party in the case.

As a part of the same strategy , Imran Khan , is targeting chief election commission (CEC) ,Sikander Sultan Raja , a highly reputed senior bureaucrat, for months. The sole purpose of Imran Khan ,s tirade against CEC to make him controversial and stop him through blackmailing from taking any decision against his party in foreign funding case.

“For months, Imran Khan, made every possible move to target CEC to refrain him from announcing a decision in PTI foreign funding case”, PDM leadership said in its pressers and public gatherings.

In the given scenario, ECP’s decision of Tuesday in PTI foreign funding case will be a tough for it .
