Govt grants concessional power rates for export related sectors

Ishaq Dar says concession to enhance Pakistan's exports. Hints at massive decrease in dollar value

ISLAMABAD : October 6,2022: Urging exporting sector to do more, Finance minister Ishaq Dar, has announced a concessional power tariff of Rs 19.99 per units for all five export -related sectors.

Ishaq Dar made an announcement to this effect at a press conference here . The representatives of All Pakistan Textile Manufacturers Association (APTMA) and other exports related sectors were accompanying the Finance minister for the press conference .

According to Mr Dar, the concessional power tariff rate will cost Rs 90 billion to Rs 100 billion a year.

Finance minister , Ishaq Dar, said the exports related sectors were performing well and they achieved 12.9 % increase in exports in the last few months and this compelled him to grant a concession of cheaper electricity for exports related sectors .

Mr Dar opined that Pakistan needs more exports to cut down its dependence on foreign debt for running the affairs of the state. He said Pakistan has great potential and the representatives of APTMA and other sectors assured him in today’s meeting that they will use all possible windows to increase exports and help Pakistan achieve financial dependence.

Ishaq Dar said he delivered as Finance minister when Pakistan was bearing harsh sanctions due to its detonations of nuclear devices in 1998.
He said he has not taken any harsh action as yet but dollar has shed its value massively on his return. He said dollar’s actual value was below 200 mark and it was heading to the same.

The Finance minister claimed that he has space to grant relief to the masses in the prices of petroleum prices and he will speak to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) team on it when it comes to Islamabad in the last week of the current month. He told a questioner that PMLN government had paid farewell to IMF in the past, but a disastrous economic policy of the last government reversed Pakistan’s journey of financial independence .

In response to a question, Ishaq Dar said the PTI social media wing was behind disinformation about his salary of crores on becoming senate member . He clarified that his salary goes as donation to a KPK based hospital.
