Govt reacts to opposition’s furore over price-hike

ISLAMABAD: The government too took hard stance on Sunday over the opposition’s criticism over the petroleum product prices’ increase.
Information minister, Fawad Hussain Chaudhary, in his response to the opposition’s call for country- wide mass movement to dislodge the government, said the opposition was trying to mislead the masses by criticising increase in the petroleum product prices. He said the recent surge in the oil prices was due to major jump in their rates in the international market. Fawad Chaudhary noted the oil prices will reduce in domestic market once its rates in the international market go down. The minister clarified that the whole country can not be run on subsidies.
State minister, Furrukh Habib, also spoke on the issue. Speaking to the media here on Sunday , Furrukh Habib said the opposition was trying to give an impression that it was extremely concerned over the issue of the people whereas in fact it was responsible for Pakistan’s economic vows. He claimed the opposition was mocking with the people to grind its own political axe.
Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi , said PDM can not mislead to masses in the name of price-hike . He demanded across the board action against those who were involved in corruption. He said the government was trying to provide possible relief to the people.
