* History through lens * !!

This Photograph came from Imperial War Museums. Image file number IWM Q 6502. The picture was taken by Lieutenant John Warwick Brooke during WW1.

This historic picture I dedicate to ace Photographer Honourable Arif Mehmood, whom I spotted the other day at the marriage ceremony of Sana daughter of Mujib Rehman Khan, a gem amongst his family with a kohinoor of a heart and himself an outstanding Furniture Designer Par Excellence.

Arif Mehmood, founded the White Star Archives for Dawn under supervision of Honourable Hameed Haroon, the CEO of Dawn Media Group from which I also humbly contributed through coordination with Late Nilofer Patel, Director Circulation for collection of historic photographs from all around .

The picture has soldier of the 51st (Highland) Infantry Division and an elderly civilian, near Locon, on the 10th of April 1918, during the Defence of Hinges Ridge. Lieutenant John Warwick Brooke is credited over 4,000 photographs, mainly of the Western Front during WW1.

This photograph of the elderly war time British citizen reminded me our of own tribal senior citizens who were always armed to the teeth for self – defence that helped them retain their own freedom. One can pray and hope the residents of Swat, who are today chanting for Peace are not left to pick up arms as part of their own self defence to keep Swat free from militancy and terrorism .
