Rawalpindi : Jan 31 , 2024 : Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founding chairman ,and ex-prime minister , Imran Khan , and his spouse , Bushra Bibi , have been awarded 14-year jail term in Toshakhana case.
Ex-prime minister , Imran Khan , and his wife , Bushra Bibi , have been fined $ 2.8 million in this case . Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have also been disqualified for holding any public office for 10 years .
Imran Khan was awarded 10-year term in another case of disclosing secret leaks as prime minister in 2022, just 24 hours on Tuesday. His Foreign minister , Shah Mahmood Qureshi , was also given the same term of 10-year in jail in secret diplomatic cable misuse case,
Imran Khan and his wife have been awarded maximum jail term in a case of unlawful sale of state gifts. Imran Khan and his wife , Bushra Bibi had been alleged of getting gifts which they received from various heads of the states and governments during PTI rule and later sold these gifts unlawfully in the open market. PTI founding chairman and his wife had earned bad reputation when a case of selling a precious gift of watch given to Imran Khan during his visit to Saudi Arabia as prime minister of Pakistan.
Imran Khan and his crooked political aides like Zulfi Bukhari had made desperate efforts to change the record of the Toshakhana and save their political future , but it did not work . Finally , the court awarded 3- year term to Imran Khan in the case in August last. Bushra Bibi who was seen as a central character in ToshaKhana case . Her leaked audio with Zulfi Bukhari had proved her involvement in selling of state gifts illegally . After the court ruling , Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi also surrendered to Adiala jail authorities. Imran Khan is already linguishing in Adiala jail since August 2023. Ali Zafar , the counsel for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi , termed the judgement as weak and hoped that it will be struck down by the higher court when it will hear the appeal .
However , Aleema Khan, elder sister of Imran Khan , lashed out at the counsels of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Talking to media outside the court , Aleema Khan said she has failed to understand as to why the counsels of Imran and Bushra are not defending their case effectively in the court. She said ” The counsels for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are busy in their election campaigns”.
