ISLAMABAD: PMLN vice president, Maryam Nawaz, in her interview with BBC Urdu on Thursday made stunning disclosures like saying she would like to speak to the establishment if PTI government is packed and sent home. She also claimed that the establishment was in contact with her close partymen.
Maryam Nawaz’s interview sparked more speculations in Pakistan’s politics.
Sources claimed Maryam Nawaz, who is known for her hard stance against Pakistan’s security institution , backed -off from her position and softened her stance after her meeting with PPP chairman, Bilawal Bhutto, in Gilgit.
Both Maryam and Bilawal are currently in Gilgit to run election campaign of their parties.
Taking advantage of the situation , Maryam had invited Bilawal Bhutto for a cup of tea in Gilgit.
The sources claimed the two leaders had discussed the national  politics during the meeting with particular focus on Nawaz Sharif’s narrative meant for targeting top military leadership .
Bilawal Bhutto had distanced himself from Nawaz Sharif’s narrative soon after Gujranwala rally of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
Sources said Bilawal Bhutto conveyed to Maryam Nawaz in Gilgit meeting that his party would not support PMLN narrative aimed at targeting the state institutions.
Bilawal Bhutto’s point of view could be one of the reasons behind Maryam Nawaz’s softened stance.
The political pundits argue Maryam Nawaz’s interview was a message to the establishment that she was ready to give up fight in the name of party narrative if was given some facesaving.
These political pundits believe Maryam  has reached to a conclusion that her party may not get anything good from its hard -hitting  narrative as it was not getting desired response from the public and thereafter she has started to back track to find some space for reconciliation with the establishment.
Nawaz Sharif had launched anti institutions campaign in Pakistan when he was dismissed as prime minister by the Supreme court of Pakistan in 2016 in a corruption case.
He targeted the military and judiciary in particular  as he considered these two institutions responsible of his ouster from power.
Nawaz Sharif kept on following the same approach in the months and years to come with a believe that his anti institutions rant will ultimately get popularity in the public. His tirade was fully supported by his political heir and elder daughter, Maryam. However, these two characters of Sharif dynasty got disappointing response from the public and at the same time from their like-minded political parties when PPP and Maulana Fazalur Rehman,, two key players of PDM refused to shoulder Nawaz Sharif’s narrative.
The desperation within PMLN ranks and strong reaction from the senior party leaders also made it difficult for Nawaz Sharif and Maraym to continuing perusing their hard stance against the state institutions.
“Maryam’s interview is clear negation of Nawaz Sharif’s narrative and it has a subtle message for those whom she wanted to convey it “, Qamar Cheema, a political anaylist , said when was approached by NEWSMAN for comments on Maryam Nawaz’s interview with BBC Urdu.
