ISLAMABAD : After ouster of Imran Khan , the joint opposition will pass through its first test on Monday when its nominee …Shahbaz Shahbaz … will present himself for the prime minister election. He will face Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) candidate , Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in the contest.
The joint opposition had hardly crossed the mark of 172 , magical number required, to oust Imran Khan through a no confidence vote . The number game slightly remained in favour of the opposition as it could show up only 174 votes in the lower house against Imran Khan on Saturday last. Although , this number was enough to end the rule of Imran Khan ,but its was not as good as the opposition was supposed to show in the crucial test . The joint opposition had been claiming of having support of around 200 members to make its no confidence motion a big success. Keeping in mind thin majority in voting on no confidence motion against Imran Khan , Monday’s show of the joint opposition would not be less than a tough test for it .
Shahbaz Sharif’s win in Monday’s test can set a solid ground for joint opposition to keep Imran Khan and his party at bay in coming months . In case of wining the prime minister contest , the joint opposition has to come up with an emergency plan for considerable relief for the masses and make them feel that it was the right choice to steer Pakistan out of current financial mess created by unruly Imran government. The new possible government has to make urgent corrections to stop meltdown of Pakistan’s economy and seize depreciation of the Rupee against dollar .
Among many others, leaving the Rupee for free fall against dollar , was the most deadly act of the Imran rule . Its economic wizards like Asad Umar and Shaukat Tareen did every thing for politics but did nothing to stop bleeding of the national economy. Imran Khan himself hardly took interest in any corrective measures to stop economic downfall in his three and half years rule. He was the man who expressed ignorance over crash of the Rupee vis a vis dollar in 2019. He had told his select group of journalists one fine morning that he came to know fall of the Rupee by more than 10% through the media . He kept on following the same approach for the remaining years . He blindly accepted International Monetary Fund (IMF) condition of a free Rupee / Dollar parity . That one criminal act of Imran Khan ignited economic deterioration of the country. The people of this country paid the price of careless economic approach of PTI government in the form of killing price hike , suicides due to hunger and poverty . One can see pace of the Rupee depreciation in last two weeks rule of PTI and it can give a true picture as to how former government criminally ignored dangerous downfall of Pakistan’s economy.
