Rare are those who truly embody grace and justice while donning the uniform they wear. Many succumb to the allure of power, while others are consumed by their insatiable greed for personal gain.
In the midst of this, there exists a gentleman whose unwavering integrity and humility have earned my utmost respect. Meet Karam Elahi, the incumbent Pakistan customs collector in Dera Ismail Khan, a man who personifies the essence of his role. He possesses a profound understanding that his position is not an opportunity to amass wealth but rather a platform to serve his country diligently.
What sets Karam Elahi apart is his contentment with what he has, devoid of any desire to showcase material possessions. He is not swayed by the temptations of wealth or driven by greed. Hailing from the remote region of upper Dir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), he remains deeply connected to his roots and finds solace in his simple way of life.
I had the privilege of learning about Karam Elahi when a dear friend from school, Sadiq Akbar, who also serves in the Pakistan customs, was kidnapped. Engaged in the rescue operation, I witnessed firsthand the extraordinary bond shared by Karam Elahi and his brother. Rather than yielding to the demands of the kidnappers, they chose to place their trust in Allah, preferring to embrace the risk of death over compromising their principles.
Unfortunately, their own department failed to provide the support they needed, but their unyielding faith and determination prevailed. Miraculously, both Sadiq Akbar and his brother were safely reunited with their families and friends. Karam Elahi’s unwavering dedication to his duty and his unwavering belief in divine protection are a testament to his character and serve as an inspiration to all.
Karam Elahi is a true blessing to the country he humbly serves, regardless of his posting. His selflessness and commitment to justice make him a beacon of hope and an embodiment of the values we should strive for in our society. It is individuals like him who restore faith in the potential for righteousness within our institutions.
I fervently wish Karam Elahi good luck in his endeavors, and I hope to have the opportunity to meet him one day. As I have never been to Dera Ismail Khan, I long to visit the historic Tank Fort residence of Honorable Gen. Tariq Khan, a distinguished soldier and an exceptional individual whose reputation precedes him. It is in the presence of such extraordinary souls that we can truly appreciate the noble spirit of justice and honor sadly much needed by the society to survive in dignity. .
