Mongolia and Pakistan Commit to Enhanced Relations in Trade, Tourism

ISLAMABAD, October 17,2024: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Mr. Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of Government Meeting in Islamabad today.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif warmly welcomed his Mongolian counterpart, emphasizing that Mr. Oyun-Erdene’s visit marks a significant moment in the history of Pakistan-Mongolia relations, founded on mutual respect and goodwill.

He congratulated Mr. Oyun-Erdene on his recent re-election and expressed a desire to work closely together to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Sharif proposed exploring new avenues for collaboration, particularly in trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts.

He also suggested sending Mongolian civil servants to training institutions in Pakistan and declared 2025 as the “Year of Pakistan-Mongolia Friendship” to further enhance bilateral ties.

Mr. Oyun-Erdene praised Pakistan’s leadership in the SCO CHG Meeting and expressed Mongolia’s commitment to building stronger relations through joint efforts.

The two leaders agreed to form a Joint Ministerial Commission to boost cooperation in key sectors such as trade, tourism, agriculture, and mining.

They also discussed establishing an inter-parliamentary union to strengthen parliamentary relations.

The meeting concluded with Mr. Oyun-Erdene planting a sapling at the Prime Minister’s House, symbolizing the deepening friendship between Pakistan and Mongolia.
