ISLAMABAD: The case of corruption and unlawful hiring in the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has finally set to land in Public Account Committee (PAC) as agenda of its meeting, scheduled for September 30, 2021 tops illegal actions of the bank management.
The PAC has also directed to the NBP management to present audit reports of the bank for 2019-20 in its meeting to be held on September 30, 2021.
The PAC seemed having some idea of stuffing of hand-picked persons in NAB by Arif Usmani as president and his cronies. Its notice issued to the Finance Division calls for presenting audit reports involving highest amounts and the progress report on the audit paras. The PAC has also sought briefing on human resource and procurement made during incumbent president Arif Usmani’s tenure. These two areas –human resources and procurement …are key to understand the wrongdoings committed by Arif Usmani and his cronies in NBP.
NBP is in total disarray as its president Arif Usmani is a weak person. He lacks professional caliber to run a big organization like NBP and his promoters are taking advantage of his weak footing for hiring of their guys in the bank against heavy salaries .
Unstoppable illegal actions of Mr Arif Usmani have literally turned NBP into a den of corruption and wrongdoings. Despite the stay order of the court, Arif Usmani is continuing illegal hiring in the bank. He is probably appeasing his masters who got him installed as NBP president through illegal hiring and doling out billions to like-minded groups without meeting required conditionalities. It is for sure a solid case that Arif Usmani was promoted and elevated to NBP top slot by Mr Asad Omar who, as federal minister enjoys close relationship with prime minister Imran Khan, and sometimes dominates in decision-making in the federal government. Withdrawal of Javed Karashi the first name in a panel of three candidates for getting job as NBP president make the entire selection process of Airf Usmani dubious and questionable.
Probably on the advice of Asad Umar concerned departments lowed down qualification in the advertisement issued in 2018 in national press for the post of the NAB president . The same factor also got lowered age criteria to make Arif Usmani fit for this job. The circumstantial proof suggests Asad Umar used his office and position to force concerned departments to issue a tailor-made advertisement to pave way for appointment of Arif Usmani as NBP president.
