Objectionable material on social media: apex committee takes review of tools to tackle issue

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of apex committee was held here in the ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony discussed the steps taken for tackling the issue of objectionable material in the social media.
Prominent scholar and dean of Arabic and Islamic studies Allama Iqbal university, Dr Mahuddin Hashmi, chaired the meeting.
The senior officials of the ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) attended the meeting.
The chair directed to the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) that it ensure that a senior official of the authority attends the next meeting to give its inputs in formulating the policy for tackling the issue of objectionable material on the social media.
It has been noted time and again that some unscrupulous elements use social media to create and public objectionable material (particularly) to harm emotion of the Muslims.
Some country especially European countries use social media to attack Islam and hurt its followers in a conspiracy to create rift and divide among different religions.
PTA has been given a responsibility to frame a policy to take immediate steps to review and delete any objectionable material from social media.
The meeting discussed fake websites and social media links which were publishing materials with a purpose to harm the emotions of the Muslims.
The apex committee is comprised of prominent scholars coming from different sects and thinking and it has been assigned to prepare recommendations to tackle the issue of objectionable material on social media.
