Pakistan Faces Backlash Over Costly Climate Ministry Delegation to COP29

Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change is facing criticism for sending over three dozen officials, including a cabinet member’s daughter, to the COP29 climate conference in Baku.

The trip, scheduled for November 11, is reportedly being funded by loaned money from the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) and could cost the national treasury over $1 million.

Meanwhile, an IMF team will arrive in Pakistan the same day to discuss a $1 billion climate financing package. Critics argue that the funds could have been better allocated to local climate resilience efforts.
