Pakistan offers India third time consular access for Jadhev

After 24 hours, Pakistan has offered India again consular level access for its arrested spy… Kulbhushan Jadhev . A day earlier on July 17, two diplomates of Indian High Commission in Islamad had left the meeting venue and later Indian ministry of Foreign Afffairs had claimed Indian diplomats ended up meeting with Kulbhushan Jadhev in protest for not providing them unimpeded access as agreed under Ganeva Convention 1963. Pakistan outrightly rejected Indian allegations and said Indian government intentionally missed the opportunity for consular level meeting with Jadhev. Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi told the media in Islamabad yesterday that Indian diplomats ‘ accusations were not factual. He added that India was not actually interested in having consular level meeting with Kulbhushan Jadhev. After trading accusations and counter accusations, Pakistan renewed its offer on Friday. Pakistan’s foreign office also confirmed the new development . Foreign Office spokesperson Aysha Farooqi , told private channels on Friday afternoon that Pakistan has made third time consular level access to India for meeting with Kulbhushan Jadhev as a goodwill gesture and India’s response to it is awaited. Pakistan had arrested Kulbhushan Jadhev in 2016 from Baluxhistan during an operation. Jadhev, a serving Indian navy commander , had confirmed during investigation that he was running a spying network to create unrest and insurgency in the province. He was later awarded death sentence in the case by Pakistani court. India later moved the international court of justice which directed Pakistan to withhold implementation on death penalty awarded to the Indian spy till final disposal of the case. It also directed Pakistan to give India consular level access for meeting with Kulbhushan Jadhev. Now Pakistan has offered India to file an appeal before the Islamabad High Court for relief to Kulbhushan Jadhev. The deadline for filing the appeal before IHC will expire on July 19.
