ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia on Tuesday affirmed their committment to jointly work on Afghan issue to avoid looming humanitarian crisis in that war -ravaged country.
Prime minister, Imran Khan and Russian president, Vladimir Putin, spoke on phone to discuss current situation in Afghantan and workout a joint strategy at Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
According to an official statement issued here after telephonic conversation between prime minister, Imran Khan, and Russian president , Vladimir Putin , the two leaders had identical views that Afghanistan was facing huge financial crisis and the people of Afghanistan needed emergency assistance to cope -up with emerging sever humanitarian crisis.
Prime minister, Imran Khan , and Russian president Vladumir Putin also agreed that it was high time for the world community to realise the worsening financial crisis in Afghanistan. They agreed that Taliban led government was the last option to establish peace in Afghanistan. The two leaders apprehended that the failure of the new Afghan government would aggravate the situation in Afghanistan and it would adversely impact the peace in the entire South Asia region.
Prime minister, Imran Khan , apprised the Russian president of Pakistan’s efforts made so far to mobilise the world community to help the new Taliban -led government in Afghanistan. The prime minister said Pakistan was doing every possible help to provide much -needed humanitarian assistance to Aghan people.
Pakistan is sending food, medicines and other necessary supplies to help Afghan people to survive in these challenging times. In recent days, Pakistan dispatched many cargos of food, medicines and other essential items to meet demand of Afghan people.
Pakistan is also urging upon the world community that it should realise ground situation in Afghanistan and provide financial support to the new Taliban government. Islamabad is also urging upon the Biden administration to de-freez foreign accounts of Afghanistan to help Taliban- led government to start re-construction and re-hablitation work in Afghanistan. The Biden administration had seized foreign banks accounts having over $ 10 billion .
Meanwhile, the European Union on Tuesday issued a statement, urging the world community that it should establish close contacts with the new government in Afghanistan to avoid more instability in Afghanistan.
