Poor performance in engineering course highlights flaws in educational system

Faisalabad: April 4,2023: The recent results of the EE-356 Power Transmission Distribution and Utilization course taught by Junaid Alvi at NFC IEFR Faisalabad have raised serious concerns about the quality of education provided to engineering students in Pakistan.

Out of approximately 75 students who were top performers in their previous academic careers, only 3 scored more than 50 marks in this particular subject. Highest scorer stood at 53 and not a single student scored 55 even. This poor performance can be attributed to the lack of teaching ability and industrial experience of the instructor, Junaid Alvi, who was appointed based on his late father’s seniority in the same institute.

This situation highlights the flaws in the education system in Pakistan, where nepotism and favoritism are rampant in the hiring process, and merit-based selection is often ignored. This not only affects the quality of education but also undermines the potential of young, talented individuals who are denied opportunities due to their lack of connections.

It is essential for the education system in Pakistan to be reformed, to ensure that instructors are selected based on their qualifications and abilities, and that students receive high-quality education that prepares them for the real world. This requires a shift in mindset, away from traditional methods of hiring and teaching, towards more progressive and innovative approaches.

The students affected by this situation deserve better, and it is the responsibility of the education authorities to take action to address this issue. They should not be penalized for the shortcomings of their instructor, and efforts should be made to provide additional resources, support, and reevaluation opportunities to help them succeed.

The most unfortunate part is that no authority is willing to take any action against culprit Junaid Alvi who has not taught the class up to the mark and no-one is there to rescue the suffering students; Future of Pakistan. The Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore, Dean of the Department, Controller Exams, Director NFC IEFR, Head of Department all of them were contacted but in vien.

In conclusion, the poor performance in the EE-356 course at NFC IEFR Faisalabad is a wake-up call for the education system in Pakistan. It is time to prioritize merit-based selection, invest in teacher training and development, and ensure that students receive the high-quality education they need to succeed in the global economy.

Yes, this is true. This is happening in almost every university every department is having a few such teachers but overall Pakistani teachers are very humble and nice and polite. But black sheeps are there, thanks God someone took this story and pointed them

Well, this seems one side story. Can’t say anything without seeing the actual results. But yes it is happening. We had a teacher Madam Hina Mukhtaar in chemical engg department in same institute. She got job due to her uncle Prof. Saleemi from UET was a friend of then director were brilliant teacher Dr, Javaid Khan Rabani.
And I think this teacher Junaid alvi was son of Sir Daud Ali Alvi Sahib he was such a nice teacher he taught us chemistry but he was a power of nfc. I think now he has been retired.
But there were teachers at that time too like Rana Akram (may Allah forgive him) he was a real terror and he use to abuse everyone. and fail however he wanted to fail. no one could ask him

Educational institutes in Pakistan are charging really high amounts in terms of fee, so they shall provide standard education to their students in that sense if they had to invest in Staff/Teacher Trainings they shall invest to provide upto the Global Standrd education. So Pakistani student shall compete in Global industry.

Among the fuelling factors for such academic mess is the incompetency of teachers. We, unsurprisingly, lack capable and well trained teachers.

I am myself a teacher in UET Lahore
My students can comment on my conduct but I know a few of my colleagues who are really psychopaths and torture student instead of cooperative attitude.
But yes this is not the case of majority, and I stand with the message and cause that such teachers who are not teachers must not be in faculry

It’s really frustrating to see officials in the engineering education system not performing up to par. It’s important for them to step up and ensure that students are receiving the best education possible. Hopefully, changes will be made soon to improve the system.

  • Haider Ali

I think it’s important for us as students to speak up and advocate for the changes we want to see in the system. We should hold officials accountable and demand that they prioritize education and student success. It’s our future that’s at stake, after all.

  • Ali Raza

Someone should be responsible for the future of students. Head of department must take action on grades of students and teacher should be accountable.

Seems like you have got some coins for posting such remarks and favoring the culprit. I have seen your comment on Facebook too. Well after looking at the results, that are shared on Facebook, and if they are original. teacher seems guilty. I have also taught a class in NFC and i am understanding what this report is saying. Its impossible that all the 76 students of a class are dumb

Behaviour like this by teachers is unbearable by students. As their career gets affected. If teacher has problem with some of the students in the class he can punish them in some way rather than rolling up whole class.
