Poultry Association’s strike pushes-up eggs, chicken prices

Rawalpindi /Islamabad : Nov 29 : An uncalled for strike of Poultry Association has resulted in storage of chicken and eggs in local markets, pushing up prices of both essentials to unprecedented levels.

As a result of the Poultry Association’s strike the prices of eggs and chicken increased to Rs 350 per dozen and chicken and it’s meat was not available as the shop owners had close down their shops of chickens.

In a clear attempt to blackmail the Customs authorities , the Poultry Association had announced a 2-day strike on Monday against. what they claim non- clearance of soyabeans shipments. The Poultry Association’s call for strike put the people in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in acute stress as they could not have access to chicken meat and eggs in fast increasing cold of the winter season.

Chaudhary Salim, an owner of a local bakery and general store in Islamabad told NEWSMAN that eggs supplier ls have halted eggs supply and if the strike continues , it would result in huge increase in eggs prices in coming days and weeks.

The Poultry Association strike also chides a notice of Market Committee of Islamabad which asked the sellers to provide eggs and chicken to the people of Islamabad at Rs 333 a dozen. The chairman of the Subzi and Fruits Market Committee had issued the latest rates on Nov 28.
