ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) refuted the content of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) report on sugar crisis.

PSMA chairman, Iskander Khan, responding to AGP report said it is a misperception that export was a cause of sugar pricehike in the domestic market. Rather it was high taxation and sugarcane rates which pushed up commodity prices.

Speaking to NEWSMAN, Iskander Khan said ” Sugar industry which contributes billions of rupees as taxes to the economy, besides pumping over Rs 350 billion to the rural economy through payments to the cane growers but it is being painted as a rouge industry”.

He said as long as this wrong perception stays, the sugar industry will not get due place in decision -making.
