LAHORE: Electric buses are set to roll out across five major cities in Punjab, including Lahore, as the provincial government nears the completion of its bus acquisition process.
According to officials, the procurement of the electric buses is in its final stages, with plans already underway for the construction of Pakistan’s first and largest state-of-the-art Green Bus Depot in Lahore.
In addition, work on a modern “Vehicle Testing Laboratory” in Punjab is progressing rapidly and is also nearing completion.

Last month, the Punjab Assembly was briefed on the project, revealing that a fleet of 680 eco-friendly electric buses will be launched in the province at an estimated cost of Rs 40 billion.
Punjab’s Transport Minister, Bilal Akbar Khan, also highlighted the introduction of “Pink Buses” specifically designed to cater to the transportation needs of women in the province.

The electric buses will be deployed across various cities, with 300 buses allocated for Lahore, 100 for Multan, 110 for Faisalabad, and 42 for Bahawalpur, as part of the initiative to modernize and green the province’s public transport system.
