Lower house to elect leader on Sunday

Islamabad. : March 1,2024 : Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) bagged the slot of the speaker and its ally Pakistan People Party (PPP) won for the post of deputy speaker of the lower house of parliament during its session held here on Friday. PMLN candidate , Sardar Ayaz Sadiq bagged 199 votes and won the contest for speaker of the national assembly. He became the speaker of the national assembly for third time. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had won a national assembly from Lahore in February 8 elections . His opponent of Sunni Ittehad Counsel (SIC), Amir Dogar , got 91 votes .

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Ghulam Mustafa Shah were joint candidates of allies parties including PMLN , PPP, PML-Q , MQM and BAP . Outgoing speaker, Raja Pervez Ashraf, administrated oath from Sardar Ayaz Sadiq after winning the contest for the speaker of the national assembly. Later , PPP ‘s Ghulam Mustafa Shah won the race for deputy speaker . He got 197 votes and SIC’s candidate Junaid Akbar got 92 votes. While welcoming Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as his successor , Raja Pervez Ashraf said the election for the speaker of the national assembly shows beauty of the democracy democracy . He hoped that his successor will uphold democratic norms in running the proceedings of the house and serve the state to the best of his abilities. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq thanked his party top leadership –Nawaz Sharif — and all the parties’ leadership for voting for him to elect for the post of the speaker of the national assembly. He said as speaker his conduct will be impartial and over and above the party affiliation. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said Amir Dogar is like his younger brother.

Amir Dogar in his address after losing the race for speaker of the national assembly said February 8 elections were not the elections rather it was an auction in the name of elections . He questioned why the elections were held at the cost of Rs 50 billion of this poor nation if after all auction was needed instead of fair elections. Amir Dogar added that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) had won 225 national assembly seats as per form 45, but its win was stolen to change its win into a defeat. He addressed to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and said he would have stood today a winner had the last elections not stolen.

After deputy speaker elections , the winner Ghulam Mustafa Shah thanked his party leadership for nominating him for the slot of deputy speaker . SIC candidate , Junaid Akbar came hard on those who, in his views, changed February 8 elections and said PTI will not let this take government run the show unless his party’s stolen mandate was returned to it. The lower house will elect its leader on Sunday .
