Gen. Aamer Raza promoted as 4-star , appointed as CNSC

Islamabad, 24 July 2026 : According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister Office (PMO) here on Friday , Prime Minister , Shehbaz Sharif, has announced the promotion of Lieutenant General Aamer Raza, HI(M), SBt, Chief of the General Staff of Pakistan Army, to the rank of “Four-Star General” and his appointment as “Commander National Strategic Command”.

It added the Prime Minister congratulated General Aamer Raza, HI(M), SBt on his promotion and appointment wishing him the best for undertaking this important responsibility.

Later, Pakistan Armed Forces posted in keeping with Armed Forces Proud Tradition of Merit and Competence, CGS Lt Gen Aamer Raza elevated to Four-Star General.

General Aamer Raza’s promotion to four-star rank follows a distinguished professional career, including his service as Chief of General Staff at GHQ—a pivotal appointment demanding strategic vision, operational acumen, and a deep understanding of military affairs. A person most knowledgeable , suitable for the next role based on his present appointment as head of General Staff branch of Army.

His extensive experience, particularly as Director General Weapons and Equipment and Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), provides a strong technical foundation for the demanding technological responsibilities associated with the Commander, National Strategic Command portfolio.

A sterling career in the Armoured Corps, complemented by a wide range of command, staff, and institutional appointments across the Pakistan Army, reflects his broad professional experience and technical competence.

The appointment is presented as reinforcing the Pakistan Armed Forces emphasis on selecting officers for its highest responsibilities on the basis of professional merit, experience, and suitability for the role. Owing to his experience and competence, he is certainly the best choice for this new HQ which will act as a pivot in matters pertaining to Strategic Domain
