SUBJECT: URGENT INTERVENTION REQUESTED TO SAVE THE FARMING COMMUNITY OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA*

Respected Honorable Governor,

With utmost respect, we wish to draw your kind attention towards an extremely serious issue concerning the availability and supply of fertilizer in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As we have received information from the fertilizer industry, that restrictions have been imposed under an SRO issued by the Ministry of Interior, preventing fertilizer companies from dispatching fertilizer to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Your Excellency, the timing of this restriction is particularly critical. Autumn/Rabi sowing is currently underway, and fertilizer is an essential agricultural input required for the healthy growth and productivity of major crops. Any delay or disruption in its availability during this crucial agricultural season will adversely affect crop yields, increase the financial burden on farmers coupled with food insecurity in the Province.

We understand the importance of security measures, regulatory compliance and transparent fertilizer distribution. In the light of this, we request Your Excellency for the following:

1. Direct the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Interior, to review the matter on an urgent basis to resume fertilizer dispatches to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
2. Expedite the implementation of the Track and Trace System throughout the province so that fertilizer supplies can be regulated without disrupting agricultural activities.
3. Consider granting interim permission for fertilizer dispatches under a controlled and monitored mechanism until the complete implementation of the Track and Trace System.

The farmers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa deserve equal access to essential agricultural inputs, just like farmers in other Provinces. Agriculture is the backbone of rural livelihoods, and any disruption during the sowing season will have long-term consequences for the provincial economy and food security.

Your Excellency, we earnestly appeal for your personal intervention and kind support to resolve this issue on an emergency basis. Your timely action will save thousands of farmers during the ongoing cropping season.

Iskander Mohammed Khan , Senior Director
CC: Secretary Food. Mr. Shah Mehmood Khan, KPK
