The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four bankers of Kotri branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on charges of corruption of Rs60.979 million through bogus payments and other fraudulent activities.
The FIA Hyderabad circle registered an FIR on a complaint lodged by in-charge of NBP main branch, Kotri, Ghazanfar Ali Zardari, against in-charge of pension Saifullah Soomro, pension officer Mohammad Saleem Bhutto, assistant pension section Lutfullah Memon, cashier (pension payment) Tahreem Akbar Baloch and cashier (pension payment) Mohammad Qasim Kamran, accusing them of being involved in corruption during 2014 and 2016.The FIA team led by Inspector Nizam Shaikh arrested the four officers after raid on the bank branch while the fifth accused nominated in the case could not be nabbed. The team was conducting raids to arrest the accused, he said.
FIA Hyderabad circle additional director Wasi Hyder said that an investigation into the fraud was in process. If Jamshoro district accounts officers were found involved in the fraud they too would be sent behind bars, he said.
FIA had also initiated investigation into millions of rupees fraud being committed by banks in collusion with district accounts offices of Larkana, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Khairpur Mir’s, Naushahro Feroze, Badin and Shikarpur.
