ISLAMABAD : President , Dr Arif Alvi, on Monday turned down the advice of prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif, to sack governor Punjab, Umar Sarfraz Cheema .
The prime Minister’s advice for removal of the governor Punjab has been turned down by the president for the second time on Monday.
The prime minister had cited the denial of governor Punjab for taking oath from newly elected chief minister, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif.
The prime minister quoted the decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC) in his advice and noted that the governor Punjab avoided to implement the court decision and resorted to an unconstitutional act by delaying oath taking from chief minister of the province .
President, Dr Arif Alvi , disagreed with the prime minister and rejected his advice to remove the governor Punjab from his office. The president, while rejecting the advice of the prime minister, noted that the governor Punjab was performing his duty as per constitution and he neither committed any unconstitutional act nor he was involved in any mismanagement and hence can not be removed from his office .
Dr Arif Alvi had declined to take oath from prime minister Shahbaz Sharif . He cited the health issue to decline oath taking of Shahbaz Sharif as prime minister. He again stayed away from taking oath from the first batch of cabinet of prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif.
Governor Punjab, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, also had the same strategy to push the province into a constitutional crisis. The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has come up with a policy of resisting the new government by any means. It included denial of oath taking or any other act that could prolong constitutional crisis in the country.
