Absar Alam injures in targetted firing in Islamabad; rushes to hospital for treatment

ISLAMABAD: At around 6 pm , an unidentified assailant opened fire at Absar Alam, a senior journalist and former chief of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) , in F 11 park in Islamabad, injuring him when he was on his daily routine walk.

The bullet perched in Absar Alam’s belly, leaving him injured on ground.

After the attack, Absar Alam was rushed to nearby hospital where doctors gave him necessary treatment. According to the doctors, Absar Alam was out of danger and was being given necessary treatment.
While being taken to hospital, Absar Alam could be seen in a video clip telling details of the incident.
He clearly hints at those who arranged deadly attack on him.

He said ” I have message for those who are involved in attack on me such cowerdly acts will not make be silent”.

Attack on a senior journalist like Absar Alam in the centre of Islamabad is alarming and unfortunate. It will damage Pakistan’s image in global community.

Absar Alam is known for his bold stance on national issues. This attack is a message for other journalists who dare to have difference of opinion on issues of national importance .

The news of attack on Absar Alam sent a wave of shock to the journalist community of Pakistan.

The government issued condemning statements soon after the incident. Interior minister, Shaikh Rashid Ahmad, ordered inquiry into the incident and arrest of those who were involved in the attack.
PPP chairman, Balawal Zardari, Pervez Rashid of PMLN, condemed the attack on Absar Alam and demanded end to this henious act. These political leaders demanded independent inquiry into the incident .PMLN spokesperson, Maryam Aurangzeb, also condemned attack on Absar Alam and called for independent inquiry into the indcident. She said the incident was an attempt to silence differing voice.
