Accountability court grants Imran Khan’s 8 days physical remand in Al-Qadir University Trust fraud case

ISLAMABAD : May 10, 2023: An accountability court of Islamabad on Wednesday approved physical remand for 8 days of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan, and handed over him to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for investigations.

Mohammad Bashir, the judge of the Islamabad accountability court, announced the judgment in Imran Khan’s arrest case in Al-Qadir University Trust case.
Earlier, the court had reserved the judgment about duration of physical remand of PTI chairman.
NAB prosecutor, Mazaffar Abbasi, had pleaded before the court
to grant a 14-day physical remand of Imran Khan. He argued that NAB needs physical remand of PTI chairman for getting record of the case.

The counsels for PTI chairman had opposed the request of the NAB prosecutor and argued before the court that NAB’s plea for 14- day physical remand of Imran Khan was indicative of its
bad intention. Haris main counsel for Imran Khan strongly opposed the NAB’s prosecutor’s request for two weeks long physical remand of his client. He argued that his client was a simple trusty in the case which was a legal position only and he also does not an office holder in the trust in question. He said Al-Qadir University was imparting free of cost education to a large number deserving students.

NAB had arrested PTI Imran Khan in the case a day before and presented today before the accountability court to seek his physical remand for investigation.
After hearing the detailed arguments of both parties, the court approved 8-day physical remand of Imran Khan and handed him over to NAB officials for investigation. The court ordered to produce the accused on completion of 8-day physical remand.

Another Islamabad court also indicted Imran Khan in Tosha Khana case. The indictment list was read by the court for Imran Khan. PTI chairman denied the allegations. Tosha Khan case is haunting PTI chairman for months. PTI chairman was using different tactics to avoid indictment in this case. Imran Khan’s spouse, Bushra Bibi is also one of the characters of Tosha Khana case . She may face trail in this case at a later stage.

Meanwhile, PTI senior leader , Fawad Hussain Chaudhary, had moved the Supreme Court of Pakistan to cancel the verdict of Islamabad High Court (IHC) to declare NAB action of arresting Imran Khan from the premises of the court.
