Ah ! Yaqoob Bhai

Yaqoob Tabani , chairman Tabani Group commonly known as Yaqoob Bhai, took his last breath on Friday last in Karachi . Yaqoob Bhai was a true friend of Pakistan . He established Pakistan’s one of the leading business houses whose first and foremost priory is always Pakistan. He was among a few Pakistani businessmen who truly can be tagged as ” Unsung hero of Pakistan”. A few in this country know his services for Pakistan. He never took its credit. I had half a dozen meetings with him mostly in Tabani ‘s office in Blue Area in Islamabad. I always found him a contented person . Whenever , I met Yaqoob Bhai he expressed his unflinching support for Pakistan. He was kind to his employees . In PMLN last rule , Yaqoob Bhai got an invitation from then prime minister , Nawaz Sharif, to accompany him to his official visit to Tajikistan . Yaqoob Bhai travelled from Karachi to Lahore to join the premier entourage . Prior to joining the prime minister ‘s entourage , Yaqoob Bhai set to offer ‘DUA’ at Data Sahib ‘s shrine . As he walked in Data Sahib’s darbar he slipped down on wet marble floor in backwards. His head hit against a sharp corner of the floor and had a wide open injury which left him unconscious . Some people around rushed him to nearby hospital in Lahore. Since injury was wide and deep , doctors had more than one dozen stitches to treat the scull. It took weeks to recover . After recovery , Yaqoob Bhai came to Islamabad where I met him as usual . He shared the incident with me and showed me its some clips on his cell phone . It was a shocking incident especially for a man in 70s , but to my surprise he was calm and cool as usual while narrating his ordeal. His closing remarks became a source of strength for me . He said ‘ Rana sahib , my head injury was a call for me which reminds me that God gives you only that which he thinks is the best for you”. I take my relationship with Yaqoob Bhai as an asset and try to get lessons from discussions that I always enjoyed with him. God bless Yaqoob Bhai’s nice soul and rest it in eternal peace. Ameen
