Azam Swati Arrested Again Outside Attock Jail in Protest Case

ATTOCK, November 5, 2024: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Azam Swati on Saturday arrested outside the Attock district jail by Taxila police.

The arrest comes in connection with a case registered against him under terrorism and other charges following a PTI protest last month.

Swati’s detention occurred just one day after the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had granted him post-arrest bail in the protest case.

The ATC judge, Abul Hasnat, had accepted Swati’s bail application and set surety bonds of Rs 20,000 each for his release.

This is not Swati’s first brush with the law this year. Earlier in 2024, a special court issued an arrest warrant for the PTI leader over a controversial tweet targeting state institutions.

The court, led by Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest Swati after he repeatedly failed to appear in court for hearings related to the case.

Swati was previously arrested in November 2023 by the FIA for his social media posts, which were deemed offensive by authorities. His legal troubles have become a focal point in the ongoing tensions between PTI and Pakistan’s ruling establishment.

As of now, Swati remains embroiled in multiple legal cases, further fueling the political divide in the country.
