ISLAMABAD; Barrister Sultan Mahmood won the election of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) president by bagging 34 votes on Tuesday.
His opponent, Mian Abdul Waheed, who was fielded by joint opposition in AJK assembly could get only 16 votes.
It was a 1 on 1 competition between Barrister Sultan Mahmood of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and Mian Abdul Waheed of the joint opposition in lagislative assembly for top constitutional post of AJK.
Sources said president elect , Barrister Sultan Mahmood, will take oath of the office of AJK president next week.
In his address to legislative assembly members soon after winning as president AJK ,Barrister Sultan Mahmood thanked the members of AJK assembly for trusting in him by giving majority votes and elect for the highest office of AJK.
He also thanked prime minister Pakistan , Imran Khan, for putting his trust in him and make president of AJK.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood maintained that PTI win in the last election and his win as a president of AJK is a clear evidence that the people of AJK have full trust in the leadership of Imran Khan and PTI.
