Bomb Blast at Quetta Railway Station Kills 24, Injures 45

BLA claims responsibility of Quetta Station Blast

QUETTA, November 9, 2024: At least 24 people were killed and 45 others injured in a bomb explosion near Quetta’s railway station on Saturday morning, in what authorities suspect to be a suicide attack.

Outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has taken responsibility of Quetta Railway station blast.

The explosion, which occurred at the station’s busy booking office, caused widespread destruction and sent shockwaves through the city.

According to initial reports, the blast took place just as the Jaffer Express, bound for Peshawar, was preparing to depart at around 9 a.m.

The railway station, typically crowded with passengers at this time, became the site of the deadly attack, resulting in a high casualty count.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the Civil Hospital in Quetta was placed on high alert, with additional medical staff deployed to handle the influx of victims.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Muhammad Baloch confirmed the death toll, noting that several of the injured were in critical condition, and the number of fatalities could rise.

The explosion also caused significant damage to the platform’s roof, and the blast was heard across various areas of the city.

While investigations are ongoing, SSP Baloch suggested that the explosion may have been a suicide bombing.

A bomb disposal team has been deployed to inspect the site and determine the nature of the attack.

The bombing has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders across the country.

Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti expressed his shock over the deadly incident and called for a thorough investigation, reiterating the province’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.

Sindh’s Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, also condemned the attack, expressing his sorrow over the loss of lives and reaffirming that anti-state elements were attempting to instill fear and unrest in the region.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to investigate the incident and apprehend those responsible, as Balochistan remains a hotspot for insurgent and terrorist activity.

The blast serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the province.
