Canada Restricts SDS Study Visa Applications from Pakistan

The Student Direct Stream (SDS), which offers quicker processing timeframes, was introduced in 2018

Islamabad: Canada reaffirms that Pakistani and other international students will have equal and equitable access to the study visa application procedure.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS), which offers quicker processing timeframes, was introduced in 2018 to help eligible post-secondary students apply more quickly.

The SDS initiative covered Pakistan along with countries like Nigeria, China, and India. The program aimed to facilitate students’ access to higher education in Canada by expediting their visa acceptance.

However, Canada has announced the immediate termination of the SDS and Nigeria Student Express (NSE) programs as part of continuous efforts to ensure fair treatment for all students and promote program integrity. Pakistan and all other countries that participate are affected by this move.

The standard study permit stream is now open to prospective students from Pakistan and other countries. To make sure that students fulfill the financial requirements for studying in Canada, this stream still accepts Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs) as evidence of financial assistance.

Although the SDS and NSE programs have been discontinued, Canada is committed to accepting international students from all over the world and providing them a chance to pursue their academic goals in a friendly, varied, and inclusive setting.
