Rawalpindi : In the first innings of the second Test against Pakistan, in response to South Africa’s 615 runs, the national team fell victim to follow-on after being dismissed for 194 runs, the host team took a lead of 421 runs in the first innings.
In the second match of the 2-Test series being played in Cape Town, South Africa scored 615 runs in the first innings thanks to Ryan Rickleton’s 259, Timba Bawma’s 106, and Kyle Vereen’s 100 runs, in response to which the Pakistani team could only score 194 runs.
Thus, the Pakistani team fell victim to follow-on in the first innings against South Africa. The national team needed to score 416 runs to avoid the risk of follow-on, however, the national batting line faltered in front of the Proteas bowlers.
Pakistan has started its batting in the second innings and the national team will have to score 421 runs to avoid an innings defeat in the second Test.
Pakistan’s national batting line-up was in trouble from the beginning in the first innings against South Africa, the top order batsmen once again failed,
captain Shan Masood 2, vice-captain Saud Shakeel 0 and Kamran Ghulam 12 were out on the second day of play. Pakistan started their incomplete innings with 64 runs for 3 wickets on the third day, while Babar Azam was at the crease with 31 and Mohammad Rizwan 9 runs.
Babar Azam completed his half-century while playing a responsible innings but he could not take his innings further and was out for 58 runs. Mohammad Rizwan was also set at the crease but lost his wicket in an unnecessary short-ball. He managed to score 46 runs, Salman Ali Agha 19, Amir Jamal 15, Khurram Shahzad 14, Mir Hamza 13 were out. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada 3, Keshav Maharaj and Koena Mafaka 2,2, while Marco Johnson and Wayne Mulder took one wicket each.
It should be noted that in the early overs of the first day of the match, Pakistani batsman Saim Ayub was injured due to twisting his foot near the boundary line while fielding. Due to severe pain, he was taken to the hospital for an X-ray and was out of cricket for 6 weeks. South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. In the first innings, the first wicket of the host team fell for 61 runs. South African opener Aiden Markram was caught by wicketkeeper Rizwan off the ball of Khurram Shahzad after scoring 17 runs. The third-placed Wayne Mulder was also caught by Rizwan off the ball of Mohammad Abbas after scoring 5 runs,
while the third-placed Tristan Stubbs was caught by Rizwan off the ball of Agha Salman and returned to the pavilion without opening his account. After this, the Proteas captain Timba Bavuma and Ryan Rickleton put on a 235-run partnership for the fourth wicket and brought the team into a stable position. Temba Bavuma was dismissed for 106 runs, while Ryan Rickleton not only scored his first double century but also played a career-best innings of 259 runs. Kyle Vereen also played a brilliant innings for South Africa, completing his fourth century, Marco Johnson played an aggressive innings of 62 and Keshav Maharaj played an aggressive innings of 40 runs. Mohammad Abbas and Salman Ali Agha took 3 wickets each while Khurram Shahzad and Mir Hamza took 2 wickets each. It should be noted that South Africa has a 0-1 lead in the 2-Test series, after South Africa defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets in the first Test after an exciting contest and qualified for the final of the World Test Championship.
