Caretakers vow to abide by oath to complete job in stipulated period

Kakar 's maiden cabinet meeting firm in providing full support to ECP for free, fair elections

ISLAMABAD : August 18,2023: Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, on Friday said the interim set-up did not have a perpetual mandate to serve the nation.

He made the remarks while addressing the maiden meeting of the newly inducted interim cabinet. PM Kakar has picked up a 24-member cabinet.

Addressing the cabinet meeting, Kakar said he was proud to have one of the best teams.

He said he was hopeful that Almighty Allah would enable us to lead and steer this nation in this interim period.

He argued that his government was very well aware that it has been allocated a limited time and it does not have a perpetual mandate to serve this nation,” he said.

The caretaker prime minister spoke on the May 9 violence in detail. He said those involved in attacking on the military installations will be punished according to the law of the land.

Later , Murtaza Solangi, spokesman of the caretaker government later briefed the media at a maiden presser here on the decision taken at the first meeting of interim cabinet. He said the caretaker government would extend full support to the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold free , fair elections in the country. He,however, noted that it was the responsibility of ECP to announce the schedule of the general elections in the country.

He said the caretaker government accords top priority to the economic revival of Pakistan and the prime minister has issued instruction to his economic team in this regard. Mr Solangi also responded to various questions of the media persons.

The information minister referred to the meeting he held with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and said that he has conveyed the ‘will and resolve’ of the cabinet in holding transparent polls.

Solangi reiterated the determination of the caretaker setup to abide by their oath and discharge their responsibilities as per the law and Constitution of Pakistan and added that the economic health of the country is the top priority of the interim setup.
