Civil society remembers Noor Maqadam

Noor Maqadam's murder is murder of humanity

ISLAMABAD- July 20, 2022. The members of civil society light candles during first memorial ceremony of Noor Maqadam at F-9 park on Wednesday.

Noor Maqadam , a young soul , was a beam of light herself. She took part in every activity revolving around the cause of human rights in Islamabad and even in other cities of Pakistan.

One evening she left her parental house to go to Lahore with her friend . Her friend was not a stranger to her or her parents. Rather, he was a known family friend of Maqadam family.

Noor reached at residence of murderer as was plan to go to Lahore . At least Noor’s patents had this information.

But then Noor got trapped in a murderous scheme of her friend . The murderer kept on pressing Noor to marry him.

The chronology of incident of Noor’s murder suggests Noor had some differences with the murderer and for the same she gently rejected the murderer’s proposal .

But the killer had plan to not let Noor go safe this time . He made her hostage at his residence in Islamabad for four days.

During forced detention , Noor made more than one attempts to escape from the killer’s trap, but she remained unfortunate .

The details of her last attempt to run away from the killer and save her life itself paints how desperate she was to run away from the killer’s house and safe her soul.

Noor’s only sin was her feminism . She could not protect her life from a beast and finally got killed.

Alas , a society known for callousness could not do anything to save a precious life . Even after killing of Noor , her parents are going through unending agony and sufferings .

The killer is still taking advantage of our blind system of justice . God knows how many more innocents will lose lives to such beasts and when Pakistan’s system of justice will start delivering justice to the victims’ families.

I have to now say it finally. Crime happens when the circumstances are enabling. No one ever questioned why the lady was having a relationship with the accused? Why was she allowed to be so independent that she was allowed to live away from parents?
