ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed has taken suo moto notice of a video clip of a cleric identified as Agha Iftkharuddin Mirza in which he has used harsh language against the judges and demanded death penalty for those who were involved in financial embezzlement.

CJP Gulzar Ahmed has constituted a divisional bench to hear the case on Friday. The clerk’s video clip had become viral on the social media in which he demanded major punishment for those who were involved in corruption.

He named Justice Faez Esa in particular in the clip. He said, ‘Faez Esa or anybody else who is involved in financial embezzlement should be made to stand in front of firing squad’. Iftkharuddin Mirza also got very hard on PML-N and PPP senior leadership and called former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari as Indian and Israeli agents.

He demanded of those forces which in his views were pro-Pakistani to check the actions of what he said ‘Indian and Israeli agents’ and take them to task. He demanded of the armed forces to keep vigilance on Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari.

In a related development, on Wednesday, the wife of Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa has filed an application for an FIR to be registered against a man who has threatened her husband.

In her petition filed to the SHO of the Secretariat police station, Sarina Isa has said the man, whom she tentatively identified as Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza, threatened Justice Isa’s life. She enclosed a USB with a video of the threat.

She quoted the man as saying “whoever is caught involved in embezzlement, even if he’s [Justice Qazi] Faez Isa…should be put before a firing squad”. He also called for the public hanging of “people like this” and said the whole city should be called to watch it. “Call them to Fawara Chowk to see that such and such man is being shot,” he said in the video.

Sarina Isa said she found his name via an internet search but did not know if it was his real name. She asked the police to look into this further.

“As you must know, many powerful people are not happy with my husband and I suspect that this death threat to my husband is in continuation of what we have been facing,” she wrote.
