Come what may, Pakistan will not succumb to international pressure to recognize Israel, Qureshi says

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday reiterated its stance on United Arab Emirates (UAE)- Israel agreement and declared Islamabad was not going to come under any international pressure in any circumstance to recognize Israel unless the Palestinian get their rightful status and an independent homeland, Pakistan’s Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, declared this at a press briefing in Islamabad on August 24, 2020 and announced Pakistan is for a just cause of Palestine and will not give- up its stance under any circumstances unless its people demands are accepted. He told a reporter that for decades Pakistan has a principled position on the question of recognizing Israel and it will remain committed to the same till peaceful and just resolution of the problem. Foreign minister said “ We are reviewing the situation arising in the wake of UAE-Israel pace deal and believe that such arrangements will not be fruitful unless the demands of Palestinian people are accepted”. He also referred the Saudi position on the issue and said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have identical views on Palestine-Israel problem. He said like Pakistan Saudi Arabia has also refused to recognize Israel without accepting the demand of Palestinian people. Qureshi’s announcement for support to Palestinian for their cause has come a day after when prime minister, Imran Khan, had told an interviewer that Pakistan’s policy towards Israel is the same and it cannot be changed unless the world accepts the rightful demand of Palestinian people of an independent homeland. The prime minister had told the interviewer in categorical terms and said “If we do not stand with Palestinian people for their cause, how can Pakistan ask for support for peaceful solution to Kashmir cause. Shah Mahmood Qureshi outrightly dispelled the impression of any friction in Pak-Saudi bilateral ties. He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were two important Muslim countries and they enjoyed good relations for decades and they keep enjoying the same friendship without any problem. He accused media of keeping its shops open by creating an impression of soaring relationship between Riyadh and Islamabad. He noted that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will always remain trusted friends and nothing like which was being painted in the media could create any misunderstanding between the two countries. Foreign minister spoke at length on his recent visit to China. He said Pakistan and China are two ‘iron’ brothers and they have identical views on all regional and international issues. The Foreign minister said during his 2-day visit to China he discussed all important issues of regional and international importance with Chinese leadership and he can confidently announce today that the two countries have full commitment to take their bilateral relations to the new heights and at the same time play a vibrant role in ensuring peace in the region. He said Chinese president also expressed his similar views in his letter written to his Pakistani counterpart. Qureshi said Chinese president was very keen to visit Pakistan soon and his visit will be of great significance on all aspects for the regional and international issues. Qureshi also divulged on talks being held in Islamabad between Taliban leadership and Pakistan’s authorities and said Islamabad is playing an important role in resolving Afghan problem and the on-going visit of Taliban leaders was in the same context. He said Pakistan was tirelessly working for sorting out thorny issues currently hampering international efforts meant for bringing durable peace in Afghanistan. He said talks with Taliban leaders will continue till tomorrow.
