ISLAMABAD, November 20, 2024: A seven-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, has dismissed a petition challenging the recognition of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) as a parliamentary party.
The petition, filed by Maulvi Iqbal Haider, was rejected after the court upheld objections raised by the Registrar’s Office.

During the hearing, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel emphasized that it is the right of individual candidates to choose their political affiliations, stating that the court should not intervene in matters that could be deemed unconstitutional.
Maulvi Iqbal Haider, representing the Sunni Ittehad Council, argued that the matter warranted further review, but the court ruled against him, siding with the Registrar’s Office’s objections.
