LAHORE/Islamabad : As the decision to grant relief to the public in electricity bills delays further , a women took her life in Shorekot over failing in paying hefty bill of the last month .
This unfortunate incident took place on Monday . This is the second incident of taking life in the last just one week by a power consumer over failing in paying inflated bill of July .
A few days ago , an elderly man had committed suicide by jumping down from a bridge in Khana in Rawalpindi after hanging the power bill which he failed to pay around his neck. These are painful developments and show level of desperation among the public over inflated power bills.
The power distribution companies are sending inflated bills to the consumers for long and the consumers were paying these unlawful bills despite unbearable financial constraints, but now things have gone the worst for the people.
The public at large is in financial problems due to unending price hike in the country and a vast majority among them is unable to pay inflated power bills of the last month. With situation going out of control , the public has resorted to violent protests against inflated power bills across Pakistan. On Monday , the public besieged a grid station in Rawalpindi. In Sialkot , the public besieged a DISCO office. In all major cities across Pakistan, the people are up in the arms over inflated power bills.
The residents of Karachi have announced a protest against the inflated power bills in different parts of the city for Tuesday. The situation on the issue is alarming and it can push the country into anarchy, but the caretaker government is delaying the decision for any relief to the power consumers.
Prime minister , Anwaarul Haq Kakar, seems worried and he has held meetings with the concerned authorities for two consecutive days , but outcome of these meetings is zero. The beau racy is using delaying tactics to keep the caretakers away from taking any decisions to grant relief to the public on the issue.
