Court hands over Shahbaz Gill to police for 48 hours

Imran Khan says court decision part of conspiracy

ISLAMABAD: August 17, 2022: The district session judge Islamabad on Wednesday accepted the police arguments and handed over Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader, Shahbaz Gill, to the police for physical remand for 48 hours .
The court gave ruling in the case at around 3.35 PM and ordered to handover Shahbaz Gill to the Kohsar Police for investigation in anti army statement case.

The court ruled “ that while accepting the request of the police Shahbaz Gill is handed over to the police for 48 hours”.

PTI chairman , Imran Khan , strongly criticised the court order for handing over Shahbaz Gill to the police for what he called as torture .

The Islamabad police had arrested PTI leader Shahbaz Gill last week on sedition charges and kept him in custody for three days. On completion of the physical remand, the district and session judge Islamabad had sent Shahbaz Gill to jail on judicial remand a few days ago.

The Kohsar police had filed a review against judicial remand of the accused and submitted to the court that it needs physical remand of Shahbaz Gill to recover cell phone and other that he used in conversation with ARY NEWS on August 8, 2022.

Shahbaz Gill had had a long controversial talk with ARY NEWS on August 8, 2022 and tried to incite the junior army cadres to refused to accept orders of the top military leadership.
The government had ordered the Islamabad police to arrest Shahbaz Gill in sedition case.
On the same context, ARY NEWS is also facing separate cases. Its license has also been revoked by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

Its some staffers who were part of the Shahbaz Gill’s rant against the army top brass are also facing sedition cases.
The PTI was strongly opposing to handing over of Shahbaz Gill to the police for physical remand . They had opined that the police wanted physical remand of Shahbaz Gill to torture him and force him to give statement against PTI chairman, Imran Khan, to arrest him in the case.
