Islamabad : At mid night on Friday, the government hiked the rates of petrol and high speed diesel (HSD) each by Rs 26.77 per liter .
With the new jump in the rates , petrol price goes up to Rs 393.35 a litre and HSD to Rs 380.19 per litre.
The Petroleum Division announced the increase in the rates of petrol and diesel through a press release . The new rates will be effective from April 25,2026.
Since the start of the war in the Middle East (ME) from February 28, the government is making massive increases in the petroleum product prices on weekly basis.
Unprecedented increase in the prices of the petroleum products has opened up a floodgate of the price- hike, pushing up the rates of each and every thing in Pakistan. As the standoff between Iran and US is going on without any end to the conflict in the ME , there is no chance of immediate relief to the masses in the rates of the petroleum products.
The new increase in the HSD rates will also add to the farner community’s economic problems as it will increase their harvesting cost of the wheat crop.
Prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , had cut down the rates of HSD some two weeks ago , claiming that the relief in the rates of diesel will reduce the cost of harvesting of the wheat crop . However , HSD rates were hiked again by the government exactly at a time when wheat harvesting is at the peak in the Punjab.
The new increase will also make the lives of salaried class and low income group more painful as it is going to increase the rates of everything they need for use on day-to-day basis.
