DRAP unearths sporous phenobar tablet stocks being marketed in Pakistan

Authority directs field force to seize entire stock of phenobar tablet from market, seeks details of its supply chain

ISLAMABAD: June 8, 2023: The Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) has issued red alert for banning the use of phenobar 30 mg tablet citing it as sporous/ falsified and ordered withdrawal of the tablet from market besides sensitizing to the public at large not to use it in any case.
M/s Star Laboratories Lahore (Pvt) Limited is a manufacturer of take phenobar 30 mg tablet.

DRAP alert has asked field staff including regulatory field force, , healthcare professionals , physicians , pharmacists and nurses not to allow the use of said batches of the tablet. It mentioned three batches no QAO 19, 25 and 16 which have been found sporous/ falsified. DRAP alert suggests that the legal manufacturers of phenobar tablets –M/s Star Laboratories (Pvt) Limited Lahore.

DRAP statement regarding sporous/ falsified phenobar 30 mg tablet said the said sporous drug—phenobar 30 mg –is life threatening
It added that the authentic tablet is prepared under highly hygienic condition and in other circumstances any sporous tablets of phenobar could be very injurious to human beings. It also maintains that poor quality medicines compromise the treatment of diseases and may intensify the existing condition.
DRAP has ordered its field force to confiscate the products of phenobar 30 mg tablets and at the same time increase surveillance to have timely check on any such activity in the future.

DRAP has also sought details of supply chain of sporous / falsified phenobar tablet product to take action against all those who are involved in this life threatening business of drugs like phenobar tablets.
Commenting on the issue of sporous drugs’ availability in Pakistan, Noor Mahar , president lawyer pharmacists association of Pakistan, said Pakistan’s market is full of sporous/ falsified drugs and there is urgent need to have a strict monitoring/ surveillance of manufacturing/ sale of medicines to weed out this criminal activity from the country.
