ISLAMABAD: March 20,2023: Can not live without tea or the proposal of Commerce ministry to include it in the list of essential items is a killing joke with a nation which is being stempede for getting cheaper flour (Atta)?
The Commerce ministry’s proposal for enlisting tea as essential item is self -explanatory in deed. It indicates how callous and careless Pakistan’s policymakers are ?.
It also establishes that the policymakers in Pakistan have no sensitivity for the situation confronted with Pakistan and Pakistani nation. The Commerce ministry instead worrying for including tea in the list of essential items should worry about the people of this country whose big percentage is queuing-up for wheat flour for hours and going back in the evening without having it.
For a commoner Pakistani, tea is not a matter of life and death. The Commerce ministry’s love for tea importers mafia is abubdently clear from its proposal.
Pakistan spend billions of dollars on tea import every year. Now when the country is going through severe financial crisis , the policymakers should have discouraged import of items without which one does not die like tea and make focus on availability of real essential items like wheat flour.
The officials of Commerce ministry might have not seen unending queues of the people including women and children who desperately wait for hours daily for one bag of 10 kg cheaper flour. Had the officials of Commerce ministry seen stempede at flour sale points in many parts of the country they should have ashamed of proposing tea for inclusion in the list of essential items.
