tariff of 26.07 Rs/kWh maximum shall be charged to all eligible customers on the respective incremental consumption.

ISLAMABAD (Newsman): The ECC approved a three-month electricity relief package at Rs. 26.07 per unit for incremental usage from December to February. It also transferred Rs. 3.14 billion to NDMA for rescue and relief operations.

Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, presided over the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet held at Finance Division.

The ECC reviewed proposal sent by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) regarding a winter demand initiative for the industrial, domestic (ToU and non-ToU) consumers exceeding 200 units, commercial and other consumers of discos and K-Electric to enable best possible use of generation capacity besides cutting gas demand due to shifting of higher demand for electricity.

It was suggested that under this initiative, a tariff of 26.07 Rs/kWh maximum shall be charged to all eligible customers on the respective incremental consumption, above the benchmark uses in the corresponding months.

This offer would remain applicable for a three-month billing period effective from December 2024 to February 2024. The benchmark usage would be the higher of either the relevant month’s consumption in FY2024 or the historical consumption over the past three years for the corresponding months, based on a formula and terms and conditions laid before the ECC.

The ECC also reviwed a summary sent by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for transfer of Rs 3.14 billion balances of erstwhile Emergency Relief Cell (ERC) into NDMA account to carry out its inland as well as overseas rescue and relief workings in line with the legal mandate of the Authority.

The proposal was reviewed and accorded approval with the proviso that since the balances in the ERC were made up of public donations and were granted for the purpose of relief, rescue and rehabilitation of earthquake and flood victims, NDMA would make expenditures in the same purpose.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Commerce Mr. Jam Kamal Khan (virtual), Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, Economic Affairs Mr. Ahad Khan Cheema (virtual), federal secretaries, and senior officers from concerned ministries and departments.
