ECP announces general elections in last week of January

Political parties to get 54 days for campaign: Murtaza Salungi

ISLAMABAD : Sept 21 : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday said upcoming general elections will be held in the country in the last week of January 2024.

ECP has shared the working plan of the next general elections. As per the announced scheme, the Election Commission of Pakistan will issue an initial list of the new constituencies on September 27 and it will be followed by issuance of a final list of the constitutes on November 30.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has ordered to the chief secretaries of the provinces to make all necessary arrangements for upcoming general elections.

Information minister , Murtaza Salungi , congratulated the nation on announcement of upcoming general elections at a press conference held here. He said the next general elections are going to be held as per the constitution of Pakistan .

The minister added that the doubts and uncertainty about the schedule of the next general elections should come to an end now . Mr Salungi said that the political parties will get 54 days for campaign for the next electionw. He said the government will give all out support to the Election Commission to hold fair and free elections in Pakistan.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has regreted over the announcement of ECP to hold upcoming general elections in the country in the last week of January. It said any attempt to cross the constitutional deadline of 90 days since dissolution of the assemblies for the next elections will be clear violation of the constitution . Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) has welcomed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s announcement to hold upcoming elections in the country in the last week of January 2024.
