Islamabad : August 12,2024 : Inter services Public Relation (ISPR) on made an announcement that former crops commander and Pakistan ‘s premier spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief , General Faiz Hameed , has been taken into military custody and a process for his court martial has begun . This is extremely unpredictable and unexpected development . It’s also very significant as there is hardly any precedent in Pakistan ‘s military history that a retired 3-star general and ex-ISI boss is taken into custody after his retirement. According to ISPR statement , general (Retd) Faiz Hameed has been taken into custody after holding an inquiry in his case on the direction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) which confirmed the involvement of Faiz Hameed in a number of irregularities. ISPR said on the direction of SCP , the institution held an inquiry to probe allegations against General ( Retd) Faiz Hameed and its basis he is taken into custody for further investigation. ISPR further said a committee has been constituted to probe the allegations which are of the serious nature.
ISPR statement said “Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd). Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.
In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody”.
In September last year, SCP had ordered an inquiry to prove correctness of the allegations leveled by the owner of Top City Housing Society. Apex court ruled in his ruling noted that since the allegations leveled by this housing society owner are of serious nature they can not be left unattended. Top court had also directed to the owner of the private housing society to approach to the concerned forum for addressable of his grievances.
