Islamabad : Jan 2, 2024: Faizabad sit-in commission could not ascertain as if former spy chief general (R) Faiz Hameed had any role in execution of the gathering of a religious party at Faizabad in November 2017 as he did not turn up before the commission for recording his statement on Tuesday. Faizabad sit- in commission had summoned general (R) Faiz Hameed for the second time for recording of his statement .
The Supreme Court of Pakistan had constituted a 3-member commission in 2019 to identify the role of each one of its players and recommend action against those who were responsible for the Faizabad sit in held in 2017. The commission is comprised of Syed Iftikhar Ali Shah , a senior police officer of Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPK), ex- Inspector general police Islamabad, Tahir Alam and additional secretary Interior ministry Khushhal Khan . The commission has recorded statements of a number of people who had a role in organising or execution of the sit in. It’s second time that general (R) Faiz Hameed did not appear before the commission.
General (R) Faiz Hameed’s staying away from the sit in commission not only undermine the authority of the commission, but also impedes the process initiated by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to find facts relating to Faizabad sit in. Pakistan Tehreek e. Labaik , a banned religious party had organised a sit – in that lasted between November 6 to 27 in 2017. The sit – in had paralysed lives in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Faizabad sit in was one of many reasons that crippled lives in twin cities.
